The Tree of life is an ancient philosophy in many cultures and mythologies. Many myths speak of the Tree of Life or World Tree as involved in the creation of the universe, seen as as an all-nourishing, all giving Mother. Britain was once covered by mighty oak forests.... tree reverence is a major feature within Celtic religion. The Ancients saw the universe as a tree whose roots grow deep into the underground, its branches reaching high into the sky & heavens, signifying a balance & harmony between the upper & lower worlds & creating a map of all, wherein all are interwoven & connected. Druids taught in the midst of Oak groves & the words for wood and wisdom are similar (Welsh gwydd and gwyddon).

The Celtic Tree of Life is one of the most well used and enduring symbols of Celtic Art, sometimes seen as the Golden Bough, vine, or mistletoe, sometimes emerging from a pot, which symbolizes the Earth Mother, from which all life springs.
